 Broken Chair, 1997 1200 cm Wood (Bois) This sculpture was first showcased on August 18th 1997, at the United Nations Plaza in Geneva, in association with Handicap International, to summon all countries to sign the Anti-Personnel Landmine Ban Treaty and to honor their promises in giving their full support to landmine victims and to undertake all actions to clear out landmine territories. Following the setup and configuration at the United Nations Plaza, “Broken Chair” was displayed once again on February 26th, 2007, to invite all countries to participate in the ban against cluster munitions, a process initiated in Oslo on February 23rd, 2007. Sculpture réalisée le 18 août 1997 sur la Place des Nations à Genève en collaboration avec Handicap International pour appeler tous les Etats à signer la Convention des mines antipersonnel et à tenir leurs engagements à assister les victimes et à déminer les territoires pollués. Suite à l’aménagement de la Place des Nations, Broken Chair est réinstallée le 26 février 2007 pour inviter les Etats à participer à l’interdiction des armes à sous-munitions, processus initié à Oslo le 23 février 2007. ARTIST'S TALK 23 JANVIER 2016: Pascal REBETEZ - 30 JANVIER: Diane DAVAL - 13 FEVRIER: Vincent MANGEAT - 27 FEVRIER: Joerg BADER GALERIE ANTON MEIER, GENEVE - LES SAMEDIS DE 12 à 13H - ENTREE LIBRE Born in 1953, DANIEL BERSET presently lives and works in Geneva, Swizerland. The artist, trained at the Middlesex Polytechnic School of London, has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards including the Federal Fine Arts Scholarships (Swiss Art Award. In 1982, DANIEL BERSET, using 3 dimensions anamorphosis, queries and challenges the point of view and perspective of the viewer. Ever since then and until today, "the chair" used as a conundrum and riddle, has been the perennial subject of his work (See: Chair). Since 1990 until today, he questions our inherent relationship to the pedestal with such works as « Moncreux »,« Mae de Agua »… Daniel has lived and worked in Spain, France, Australia and the UK. The year 1997 was highlighted by the creation of his acclaimed piece "Broken Chair" which rapidly became a symbol and emblem for the Place des Nations, in front of the United Nation building in Geneva. He has participated in over 60 group exhibitions in Switzerland as well as abroad. His works and his in situ installations are displayed in many public and private spaces. Né en 1953, DANIEL BERSET vit et travaille actuellement à Genève. L'artiste, formé à la Middlesex Polytechnic School of London, a été lauréat de nombreux prix et bourses parmi lesquelles les Bourses fédérales des beaux-arts. Dès 1982, DANIEL BERSET interroge le point de vue du spectateur, avec ses anamorphoses en 3 dimensions. Depuis cette date et jusqu’à aujourd’hui « la chaise », comme un fil conducteur, est un sujet récurent dans son oeuvre.(Voir: Chair) Dès 1990 et jusqu'à aujourd’hui, il questionne le rapport au socle avec des oeuvres telles que « Mon Creux » « Mae de Agua » … Il a séjourné et travaillé en Espagne, en France, en Australie, ou encore au Royaume-Uni. L'année 1997 fut marquée par la création de « Broken Chair », rapidement devenue une figure emblématique de la Place des Nations, devant le Palais des Nations Unies à Genève. Il a participé à plus de 60 expositions collectives en Suisse et à l'étranger. Ses oeuvres ainsi que ses installations in situ sont dans de nombreuses collections publiques et privées. |
